Money, money, money

02.11.2022 by William

1 – True or False. You can never have enough money.

I think up to a certain point, you won’t have enough money. There are things that are much more important in life than money, shelter, water and a supply of food. If you have those three things, plus companionship, you are as rich as you need to be. Anything beyond that is somewhat pointless.

However human nature always drives us to have more than other people. Just look at the likes to Bezos and Musk. Even with the billions of dollars of wealth they have and control, they still want more.

2 – Will money solve all your problems? Why or why not?

I think having enough money to guarantee a roof over my head, food for the family, and maybe a little extra to spend on experiences, I would be satisfied. The constant grind of needing more money to put myself ahead of others is what kills me.

3 – Agree or disagree. I will not buy something unless it is new (e.g. furniture, car, clothes).

I think there are some things that I would rather buy new than others. It is always nice to have new things, but sometimes the act of buying something new is enough to satisfy that craving.

4 – Is it important to save for a rainy day (aka emergency fund)?

In the world we live in, I think an emergency fund is necessary. Help often takes time to arrive be it from family, friends or the government. Yes you might be able to scrape something together if you are in dire straits, but having some emergency funds will help calm my nerves.

5 – Complete the sentence. If I win millions in the lottery I will __________.

Ask where the lottery ticket came from. I don’t buy lottery tickets.

However if I did buy one, and we won millions of dollars, I would certainly pay off all our debts, take the family on a nice holiday somewhere new, put all the money aside in an account, and not touch it for 12 months. Yes it sounds boring, but I need to kill the impulse desires to just spend willy nilly.

Bonus: Dating costs money: dating apps, outfits, grooming, and the date itself. Tell us how you plan to make a great cheap date?

A nice meal in a restaurant or pub, a quiet drink or two, and find a nice park overlooking a beach on a warm summery evening to just talk and listen to the waves crashing on the beach.

On purpose

26.10.2022 by William

1 – What are you focusing on in your life right now?

I have many bad habits that I would like to either eliminate, or cut back on significantly. So I am doing what I can to change some of these. This is my focus in life.

2 – Select one thing that you value most right now
a. being a good partner or friend
b. becoming your best self
c. feeling happier, more fulfilled
d. performing well at work

I value all of these things. But the one that I value most at the moment is feeling happier and being more fulfilled with my life. Life has felt flat for quite some time, and someone pointed it out that I sound and live my life choosing to be miserable rather than positive. This is probably somewhat true, but only because I don’t know how to be positive thinking by default.

3 – Which type of well-being tool is of most interest to you? (pick one) Why?
a. guided meditation
b. life coaching workshops
c. personal therapy
d. social content

Well social content is pushed into any social media that people use, however it is usually fairly shallow and really only helps in the moment for a giggle.

I think the most beneficial would be personal therapy, but I need to want to do these things, and have a therapist that I can connect with an meet with regularly. I’m not sure how to achieve that for a reasonable fee for service.

4 – On a scale from 1 to 5, How much are you enjoying your life?
1 = not at all
5 = fully

I generally wander between 1s, 2s and 3s. I don’t recall a time when I could say that I had a rating higher than a 3. Maybe select events in my life have ratings of 4 or above, but if you look at everything, I’d probably say that I average out at a 2.

5 – What have you been struggling with lately?
a. feeling needed
b. making friends
c. improving mental health
d. building career
e. feeling supported

I’m just going to say it, all of the above!

Bonus: On a scale from 1 to 5, how hopeful do you feel about the future?
1 = not at all
5 = extremely

My first thought for this question was a 1. But upon thinking about it somewhat, I would have to go with 2.5-ish. While I don’t have high hopes for the future (yes I’m a doom & gloomer), there are glimpses every now and then.

Do tell

18.10.2022 by William

Just curious. If you are in an open relationship, would it bother you if your partner’s new lover sent you pics of them together? Why or why not?

For me, it would really depend on what the agreement was about the level of details we should share with each other about our non-monogamous partners. If all parties were open to it, I would not mind, but generally I think I prefer they keeps pics just for themselves rather than sharing with me unless it is something I specifically ask for.

What is the rudest thing someone can do in your home?

Have sex with your significant other on the assumption they were just coming over to watch a movie and hang out with your significant other. BTW, this is a true story.

What would you change, if anything, about your experience growing up?

I think that the one thing I would change is not being so uptight about money during my twenties and learn to live life and travel more than I did. Since reaching my thirties and having children, I regret not living life more full when I was younger.

The absolute worst fight you have ever had with a significant other, what was it about?

See the question about about the rudest thing someone can do in your home. It lead to some serious discussions and I believe a few nights were spent on the sofa by one of us as a result of it.

What is your favourite place to visit in your city or town?

Now that’s a hard one to answer, I don’t usually travel around my city and find places I really enjoy. But one thing I do enjoy is taking photographs of steam trains in new places I haven’t seen them before.

Bonus: Were you your mom or dad’s favourite kid?

I think there are days where I was because I was the more docile of the two of us. However I think my brother could be sometimes just because.

Games People Play

11.10.2022 by William

1 – Who here plays Wordle? Have you every solved wordle in one play?

I go through phases of games. I was playing Wordle consistently at one stage, but haven’t touched it for a few weeks now.

2 – Any Candy Crush addicts?

Years ago, yes I was addicted, I haven’t played Candy Crush for years.

3 – Anyone still engaging in Angry Birds fighting?

One of my kids installed Angry Birds on my phone the other day. I played it for an hour or so before giving up. Boobs and butts on Reddit hold my attention far better.

4 – Do you Sudoku?

As with all the other games mentioned here. Phases of games come and go in my life. Sudoku has long been out of rotation for me for quite some time.

5 – Have you ever done an Escape Room? Did you like it?

I have never participated in an Escape Room. Maybe one day though.

6 – Are jigsaw puzzles your jam? How many pieces was the last jigsaw puzzle you did? What was the largest jigsaw puzzle you completed?

Nope. The closest I have been to a puzzle is the kids flood jigsaw puzzles of about 100 LARGE pieces. Otherwise I don’t go near them.

Bonus: Is your brain sexy? How so?

To others, my brain is probably far sexier than I could ever imagine. To myself, it is a pile of junk that does not deserve happiness or sexiness.
